Following Will

I’ve been following Will Steger on his recent trek. I don’t know why, usually I don’t take the time for this sort of thing. Something about the calm matter of factness of tone as he talks about his day.

What stands out isn’t any grand achievement, but how unnecessary it all seems by most standards. No obvious payoff. Just the day-to-day act of living as it comes.

Will refers to the Quiet Mind, the type of phrase we throw around a lot these days without really knowing what it means or how to find it.

For me, most of my days feel scattered. Seems like too many things to do and often I end up doing too few of them. Safe to say the quiet mind is something that eludes me most of the time.

I suspect many of us in this over-60 crowd are already doing the hard work of showing up and living intentionally without much fanfare. But in an internet environment where we see so much of men in their thirties and forties telling us how to age well and the bro-science we need to buy into, finding an older and quieter voice out there is refreshing.

Listening to Will’s 5 minute daily updates has become a grounding moment in my mornings.
