I managed to get to a couple life drawing sessions at OT Artists in St. Paul this past month or so.
This was a one page session in a sketch book 11" x 14", 2 hours total with a few 3 minute poses and then one long pose. Mostly pencil and a little ink.
Then on the 27th I had another one. I decided to go big with a 14"x18" sketchbook and charcoal.
I missed the one male model they had last week, seems female models are more popular for some reason.
These are three minute gesture drawings. I was trying to be big but that's hard for me for some reason. Something I need to work on.
And this filled out the rest of the time, maybe and hour and a half if we take out the break times, (but I guess I pretty much keep drawing though the breaks)
If I had my preferences, I would chose shorter poses. Then we would have more dramatic gestures. When you have a long pose, it has to be something that the model can sit with for a long time and so we end up with these seated, (sort of boring), poses. A lot of the time I try to stay mobile with a smaller sketch pad so I can move around a bit and get different angles but this time I just stuck with it and worked on one drawing. I like how some of the shadow shapes turned out and overall I am not completely unhappy with these.
